Please enjoy this guest post by my friend Colleen Buchanan.

Unbeknownst to us, as we ate dinner recently, our daughter choked on a green bean. By the time we realized what was happening, she was already turning purple. The look on her face was sheer terror.

My husband jumped into action and performed the Heimlich maneuver but it didn’t work. He then tried to stick his fingers down her throat, but she frantically pushed his hands away.

By this time, she was even bluer, and I felt utterly helpless. I knew in that moment there was nothing I could do except rely on the Beloved. My daughter’s eyes locked on mine, hers pleading with me to do something, and I called out loud to the Beloved. In that very instant, she swallowed the bean and started breathing again.

A little while later after things had settled down, I thanked my husband (a self-proclaimed “non-believer”) for his part in saving our daughter’s life. He looked at me and said, “I didn’t do anything—I think it was Divine Intervention.”

How unbelievably blessed and graced we are.
